Purpose of the job 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual as a Triage and Allocations Officer.  

We are currently recruiting for a Housing Options Triage and Allocations Officer to join the Melton Borough Council Housing Options team to provide initial housing advice to households and details of suitable housing options in the private and public sector, including information on homelessness prevention. 
 
To act in a supporting capacity to our Housing Options Officers carrying out homelessness needs assessments. 
  
To provide information and advice on support services available and provide assistance in exploring various housing options. 
 
To complete enquiries to support the Housing Options Officers to assess homelessness applications. 
 
To be able to adapt working practises to work with vulnerable people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. 

To provide a front line customer focused housing service, including the provision of housing advice recognising when to refer to specialised officers and confirming information given by applicants. 

To be responsible for the assessment of applications to the Housing Register and Homeless Services in accordance with the Councils Housing Allocations policy, Part VI and Part VII of the Housing Act assisting applicants to complete homelessness and housing applications, ensuring they are advised of relevant proofs and assessing if their situation requires crisis intervention. 

The role will also be allocating properties to successful applicants.  

This role reports directly to the Senior Housing Options Officer and will be part of our wider Housing and Communities team.  

About You 

The successful candidate will be customer focused, be organised and be able to report effectively through our IT database.  You will be a team player but confident to work independently and have a flexible attitude to working under pressure.  We are looking for an individual with a positive outlook and a desire to deliver a quality service to the community we serve.   

A thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications is key and you will have an good working knowledge of excel.  You must be able to maintain and update electronic information systems in accordance with data protection regulations. A working knowledge and understanding of housing related matters would be advantageous. 

This opportunity would be ideal for an individual who has a customer service background, has an eye for detail and has an understanding of safeguarding matters including domestic abuse and rough sleeping.  At Melton Borough Council we are continually looking at how we can improve our service and processes and want someone to help us to deliver it!
